Technical Illustrator (Junior)
About the Role
Crescendo Solutions LLC is seeking a qualified Junior Technical Illustrator to support U.S. Department of Defense technical documentation programs. Employment is contingent upon successful contract award and funding.
The Junior Technical Illustrator produces 2D illustrations, exploded views, and schematic art that support S1000D-compliant Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) and military technical documentation. The role works under the direction of a Senior Illustrator or Technical Publications Lead to convert engineering source data into clear, standards-compliant illustrations using CGM and other approved formats.

Responsibilities
- Produce 2D technical illustrations, exploded views, schematics, and call-out diagrams from engineering drawings, photographs, 3D models, and OEM source data.
- Apply CGM (Computer Graphics Metafile) authoring standards and S1000D illustration business rules to all delivered art.
- Maintain consistency in line weights, callout style, leader lines, and labeling across data modules within a project.
- Convert legacy raster artwork to vector formats suitable for IETM viewing and reuse.
- Coordinate with Technical Writers and Senior Illustrators to ensure illustrations align with the procedural text and BREX rules.
- Apply revision and change-tracking practices required by the customer documentation environment.
- Use Adobe Illustrator, Arbortext IsoDraw, PTC Creo Illustrate, or equivalent authoring tools as directed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, illustration, engineering technology, or a related field — OR equivalent demonstrable portfolio.
- A minimum of two plus (2+) years of professional experience producing technical illustrations.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Arbortext IsoDraw, PTC Creo Illustrate, or equivalent vector authoring tool.
- Familiarity with CGM (Computer Graphics Metafile) output for technical documentation.
- Strong attention to detail, clean line work, and standards-compliant labeling.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Active or ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience producing illustrations to S1000D Issue 4.0 or above business rules.
- Exposure to MIL-STD-40051 or MIL-STD-3001 documentation environments.
- Active DoD Secret clearance.
