Technical Writer
About the Role
Crescendo Solutions LLC is seeking a qualified Technical Writer to lead authoring on U.S. Department of Defense technical documentation programs. Employment is contingent upon successful contract award and funding.
The Technical Writer may serve as authoring lead on one or more technical documentation programs. The role drives writing style guides, S1000D BREX interpretation, and authoring workflows; reviews and approves work produced by junior writers; authors the most complex data modules directly; and serves as the principal documentation interface to the customer and engineering team.

Responsibilities
- Lead authoring on assigned data modules, including operator, maintenance, fault isolation, and parts information modules under S1000D Issue 4.0 and above or MIL-STD compliant technical data.
- Establish and maintain writing style guides, terminology lists, and authoring templates.
- Interpret and apply project BREX rules; coordinate BREX change requests with the Technical Publications Lead and customer.
- Review work produced by junior writers; provide written, actionable feedback against S1000D and project rules.
- Coordinate with Technical Illustrators, engineering SMEs, and customer reviewers to resolve documentation questions.
- Lead validation events, including in-process reviews and on-equipment verification when scheduled.
- Mentor junior writers and contribute to interviewing and onboarding of new authoring staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, technical communication, engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of six (6) years of professional technical writing experience for U.S. DoD or aerospace documentation programs.
- Demonstrated production experience under S1000D Issue 4.0 or above, including DMC structure, SNS application, and BREX interpretation.
- Advanced proficiency with Arbortext Editor, Oxygen XML Author, FrameMaker XML, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience leading or reviewing other writers' work.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Active or ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active DoD Secret clearance.
- Experience with MIL-STD-40051-2, MIL-STD-3001, ATA iSpec 2200, or DITA crosswalks.
- Experience authoring for aviation, ground systems, or naval platforms.
- Experience with Common Source Database (CSDB) tools and CSDB-driven publishing workflows.
